LRT fare in Palembang will be set at a range of IDR 5,000

Berita gram. Jakarta, the Ministry of Transportation said the government plans to set a light rail transit (LRT) tariff in Palembang, South Sumatra, in the range of IDR 5,000.

The Director General of Railways at the Ministry of Transportation, Zulfikri, said that this tariff was considered appropriate by considering the ability of the community.

"If we make a move, there are two, first is time, the second is cost. The community can choose which time is the shortest, which is the cheapest," Zulfikri was quoted by Antara on Friday (4/20).

The Rp.5,000 tariff will be allocated for LRT in the city (commuter). While the route to Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II Airport Station is around Rp. 20 thousand.

The tariff will be temporary because the initial operation of the LRT still receives subsidized public service obligation (PSO) from the Ministry of Transportation.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi stated that cheap tariffs were given so that people could use these modes of transportation from day to day, not only at certain times.

"We want the central and regional governments to become a new 'lifestyle' for the people of Palembang, and become an example for other cities in terms of mass transportation," he said.

Palembang is known to be the first city in Indonesia to have LRT as its transportation.

Currently the series consisting of three trains and has arrived at Boom Baru Port will continue to be tested, both static, dynamic and load test. The test is expected to be completed in July.

South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin said the LRT was expected not only to be a transportation support for transporting athletes and groups from the airport to Jakabaring.

But the transportation mode can also be a solution to congestion. "LRT is also a solution to congestion because based on our study, Palembang will be totally jammed by 2020. Therefore, mass transportation is now carried out," said Alex.
